About PARMA HOBBY

When we opened PARMA HOBBY in 1995 on Ridge Road in Parma, Ohio, we considered naming the business "No, We're Not National Hobby".  National Hobby had been a fixture in the Parma area for over 60 years when they closed in 1990 and many people just assumed they were still in business.  However, we opted to stay with PARMA HOBBY.

Our store opened in a former photography studio that we renovated ourselves.  We turned nine little studio/offices and storage area into a retail store!

PARMA HOBBY reaches out to the communityPARMA HOBBY does a lot of community outreach.  Since 2000, we have sponsored an interactive children's area known as Kiddie Hawk at the Cleveland National Air Show.  With the help of the Cleveland Free Flight Society, Tri-City Skybusters, American Airlines Gas Model Club and about 80+ volunteers, we introduce children to the joy of non-powered flight.  Over the three-day event, we set up stations where children can build either balsa gliders, egg carton gliders or paper airplanes with the help of our volunteers.  We also have a "private air field" where the novice pilots are taught to fly their creations.

We teach classes on model building, rocketry and trains at the Brecksville Center for the Arts, Polaris Career Center and North Royalton Saturday Enrichment Program.  We also teach a full complement of classes in our classrooms on the second floor.  Twice a year we have classes in airbrushing, train layout design, scenery building, model building, rocketry and anything else people request.  The classes are always well attended.

We put on programs and demonstrations for youth and scout groups throughout the area.  We encourage scout/youth group leaders to visit the store and talk to us about programming that may be of benefit to their members.

Every year in April we present AutoFest, a competition for plastic car model builders. The models are judged by members of the North Coast Automotive Modelers, a local club that meets at the Brooklyn Public Library.

This kind of community involvement is important to keeping hobbies alive.  We introduce many new people to the fun, relaxation and enjoyment of hobbies.

Our local walk-in retail customers can tell you that our service is absolutely terrific.  Most of our products are available by phone order and come with the same A-1 quality service.  Be sure to watch for our online shopping facility opening in 2006 making it even easier to "Shop PARMA HOBBY".
