  Train Extravaganza Weekend
Bob Demonstrating Digital Command SystemPARMA HOBBY’S “TRAIN EXTRAVAGANZA” was a great success.  Bob got to “run his trains” for two days straight!  We had two layouts running the digital command systems: one for HO and the other for O/0-27.  The Bachmann Digital Command Control system for HO trains impressed everyone.  Jim Strnad ran the HO layout for the weekend – or part of it since some of the more enthusiastic younger engineers wanted a try at the controls!  Stephen Trodden manned the controls all afternoon Sunday.  Stephen even got to run one of the new Broadway Limited steam engines and operated all of the myriad features!

Many of the visitors made trees and painted rocks under the tutelage of Mary Lou Strnad and Kathy Dew.  The ladies cut foam, mixed Hydrocal, helped dip trees, and gave a terrific demonstration on the ease of the art of scenery making.  This was Kathy’s first foray into scenery making under the guidance of Jim Strnad and her husband, Jim Dew – both experienced modelers!

Bob ran the O gauge layout and demonstrated MTH’s Digital Command System and the Lionel TrainMaster system.  Bells were ringing, whistles were blowing and all manner of noises were coming from the engines running around the track.

Winner of the Whoville Special - Zach PomnitzWe had a drawing for the Whoville Special, a Bachmann HO ready-to-run train set. Our winner was Zach Pomnitz of Parma, Ohio.  Zach was thrilled when his father, Ed, passed the news to him that he had won the set!  Zach and his father came in to claim his prize within the hour!  We told him we were going to take his picture and put it up on the website.  He came in all spiffed up and not a hair out of place!  His smile was so wide, we were afraid the camera lens wouldn’t be big enough to capture it!  Congratulations, Zach!

Returning to Stearns Homestead in September 2006
In May of this year, the people at Stearns Homestead in Parma, Ohio asked PARMA HOBBY to participate in their opening day activities.  We brought the egg cartons originally collected for the 2005 Air Show and showed many youngsters how to build and fly them.  We have been asked back for their Farm/City Family Days September 10th and 11th.  Hope to see you there!

Save Your Egg Cartons for the 2006 Cleveland National Air Show!
Each year at the Cleveland National Air Show, PARMA HOBBY shows the younger aviators how to make and fly airplanes made from foam egg cartons.  Since we won't be at the Air Show this year, we won't be asking you to save egg cartons for us right now.  However, we hope to be back at the Air Show in 2006 and will need egg cartons next year.  So, after the first of the year, we'll begin collecting foam egg cartons (one dozen size only) again. You can drop them off anytime after Christmas.  Last year we collected 1,500 egg cartons!
